[DRAFT — needs legal review before launch]

Privacy Policy

What personal data Inforyx collects, why, how long we keep it, and your rights under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Who we are

Inforyx (https://inforyx.in) is operated by [Company legal name], [registered address], which is the Data Fiduciary for the personal data described here. Contact us about privacy at [privacy contact email] or through the contact form.

The short version

You can read everything on Inforyx without an account and without giving us any personal data. We collect personal data only when you choose to subscribe, sign in, comment or contact us, and we use it only for those purposes. We don't sell your data.

What we collect and why

  • Newsletter: your email address, the page you signed up on and the times you confirmed or unsubscribed. We use it only to send the newsletter. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Reader accounts: if you sign in with Google or an email link, we receive your email address, your name as provided by Google (if you use Google) and a unique account ID from our authentication provider. We use them to run your account and show your chosen display name on your comments.
  • Comments: the comment text, your display name, the article and the time. Comments are reviewed by our editors before they are published, and published comments are visible to everyone.
  • Contact form: your name, email address and message, used only to respond to you.
  • Security: to prevent spam and abuse we keep a one-way, salted code (hash) derived from your IP address for a limited time. We never store your raw IP address.
  • Reading statistics: to show Trending and Most Read lists we count views of each article. These counts are not linked to you. Your browser remembers which articles it has already counted, on your device only.
  • Analytics: we use privacy-friendly analytics that do not use advertising cookies or build profiles of you. [Name the analytics provider before launch.]

Cookies and local storage

We use only what is needed for the site to work: a cookie remembering your light/dark theme choice, sign-in cookies if you have an account, and local storage so the same article isn't counted twice. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If we introduce advertising in future, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Who we share data with

We use trusted service providers (Data Processors) that process data on our behalf under contract: [hosting provider, e.g. Vercel], [database and authentication provider, e.g. Supabase], [email provider, e.g. Resend] and [media storage, e.g. Cloudflare]. Some of them may process data outside India. We disclose personal data to authorities only when required by law.

How long we keep it

  • Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe, then deleted within [90 days].
  • Account and comments: until you delete your account.
  • Contact messages: up to [2 years], unless needed for a legal matter.
  • Security hashes: up to [48 hours] for rate-limiting records.

Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you have the right to:

  • access a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
  • correct, complete or update it;
  • erase it, and to withdraw consent at any time;
  • have your grievance about our handling of your data addressed;
  • nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of your death or incapacity.

You can delete your account and all your comments yourself on the account page, and unsubscribe from any newsletter email. For any other request, contact [privacy contact email]. We will respond within [30 days]. If you're not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Children

Inforyx is a general news site and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly create accounts for, or collect personal data from, anyone under 18 without verifiable parental consent.

Changes

We will post any changes to this policy here, with the date of the latest update. Significant changes will be announced on the site and, where appropriate, by email.
